There are some signs of roof damage, such as wet spots and leaks that are pretty easy to spot. However, do you know what the less obvious signs of a problem are? These issues are usually subtler and will require a trained eye to find. However, there are some ways you can know if your roof is suffering from hidden signs of damage.
The top five less obvious signs of roof damage are found here.
Animals Running on the Roof
When you are trying to figure out if your roof is damaged, one sign that you may not consider is animals running on the roof. However, this is a serious issue and one you need to have evaluated right away. The fact is, wild animals are great at finding small, easy-to-hide in holes and cracks in your roof. If you begin hearing more and more animals rustling around, then it may indicate damage.
Whistling Sounds in the Home
Have you noticed mysterious whistling or air flow sounds in your home? There is a possibility that this, too, is a sign of damage to your roof. Small, yet persistent, damage to your roof can create an air flow issue that is difficult to pinpoint without having a careful inspection done. This is especially a cause for concern if your home is completely sealed and you are still hearing the strange sound of air flowing.
Black Spots Located on the Roof
The majority of homeowners ignore the signs of damage to the roof, such as black spots. While this may seem to be a common issue, the presence of black spots can actually indicate a dangerous problem that needs to be repaired right away. If you ignore or neglect black spots on your home’s roof, then it is going to get worse, leading to larger leaks and expanding areas of mold.
Buckling Shingles
If shingles are missing from your roof, it is pretty easy to tell. However, something that is more difficult to see is shingles that have begun to buckle. While this problem may be easier to identify than some of the others on this list, you may only be able to see the buckled shingles when you get up on top of the roof. In many cases, this type of roof damage is overlooked. Be sure to have your roof inspected at least once a year to avoid this issue.
Nails Near the Edge of the Home
You may wonder how nails at the edge of your home indicate roof damage. Think of what may happen if a nail was to come out of your roof and was displaced? It has to go somewhere. In this case, it is likely that the nail is going to roll off of your roof and get stuck in the gutters or near the sides of your home.
As you can see, the signs of roof damage aren’t always going to be obvious. If you are unsure of whether or not damage is present, the best thing you can do is contact the professionals for an inspection.
